Kerang Region Gannawarra Shire

Kerang is a part of the Gannawarra shire, located on the banks of the Loddon river between Swan hill and Bendigo, it is very close to other regional towns like Echuca, Cohuna, Koondrook and Barham in NSW. The ibis rookery is only 9 km away. Kerang is also popular for its lake’s region including Kangaroo lake and Lake charm. This area supports a wide range of recreational activities and provide habitat for a variety of waterbirds and animals.

Water sports

Lake Charm, Kangaroo lake, lake Meran and Gunbower Creek are popular locations for water sports, Kerang Lakes are used for Sailing, Water Skiing, Jet Skiing and wind surfing.



 Loddon river, Gunbower creek and Kerang lakes, all provide excellent fishing


Canoeing is becoming increasingly popular and the local waterways provide an ideal environment for paddlers.


Bush Walking

Bush Walking is a Common Past time, There are many walking tracks along the Loddon river in Kerang and around the Kerang Lakes, also at Gunbower Creek in Cohuna and along the Murray River in Koondrook.


Bird watching

The many wetlands and forests across the region are a haven for Bird life (up to 200 species).

Middle Lake Ibis rookery is 9 kms from Kerang it is a popular location for Bird watchers. The bird hide offers viewers the perfect place to watch straw- necked and white ibis and other spectacular birds, such as pelicans, swans, spoonbills, egrets and ducks.



Walk or drive, Kerang, Cohuna and Koondrook have many heritage listed buildings. They all have brochures highlighting historical buildings and heritage associated with their towns

There are also many local events held throughout the year like Horse Racing, show and shine and sporting events such as Tennis and Lawn bowls, and Golf.

The Kerang Market is held at Atkinson’s Park on the 4th Saturday of the month (9 am to 1 pm)

The Murribit Market is held on the first Saturday of the month and Easter Saturday. It is the largest market in regional Victoria. Murribit is located under 30 kms from Kerang and only takes 20 mins to get there.
